One job to do right now to make your Hellebores stand out
Hellebores are a wonderful addition to any winter garden.
They are;
Low maintenance,
Long flowering and;
Come in a range of beautiful colours.
Hellebores are fantastic for those shadier spots in the garden. They provide evergreen ground cover with their foliage, and they flower prolifically through winter when little else is blooming.
In this blog I am sharing how to cut back your foliage and why this one job is worth doing.
Before:
In this picture you can see these Hellebore leaves have become overgrown. They are hiding much of the flowers and creating an environment where black spot can spread.
During:
Find the base of each of the leaves and simply snip this off. All leaves can be removed so be ruthless!
When you have collected a pile of leaves do not add to the compost pile as any presence of black spot could spread to other plants.
After
This is after all foliage has been cut back. You can see the Hellebore flowers so much more clearly and this now leaves plenty of space for emerging flowers.
This will also provide plenty of space for air to circulate reducing further black spot occuring.
